Get Connected
Connecting to the Wired Network
You'll need...
- A computer (virus-free with current system updates)
- A network cable (cat 5 or better—note—this is not a phone cord!)
- Your OSU username (name.#) and password
Plug one end of your network cable into your computer and the other end into the ResNet data jack on the wall . Click on your internet browser. You'll be directed to a ResNet Authentication page. Enter your OSU username.# (smith.1111) and password and click on 'continue' to connect.
If you have trouble getting a connection, call ResNet at 292-5700, 7AM-11PM.
Connecting to the Wireless Network for the first time
You'll need...
- A laptop with a wireless network card that is properly configured
- An OSU Wireless account
- Both your OSU username (name.#) and password AND your OSU wireless username (smith.1111W) and PIN.
To activate your wireless account and configure your laptop go to http://wireless.osu.edu/connect.html and follow the instructions.
Once your wireless connection is configured and enabled, your computer should detect the osu wireless SSID; follow the prompts to connect (usually just click on 'connect') if you don't connect automatically.
When connecting to wireless for the first time you'll be prompted to enter your wireless username (smith.1111W) and wireless PIN (different from your wired password). If you're connecting from the residence halls, you'll then need to enter your OSU username.# (name. # without the W) and password on the ResNet page.
